A very warm Seasons Greetings and Happy New Year to you all from the Equal Love team. We hope it is fun, relaxing and safe for everyone. A big thank-you to the many organisations and to you all that made 2009 such a big year in the fight for Equal marriage rights. The level of support overwhelmed us, but with the government and the senate choosing bigotry over equality, we must re-double our commitment and passion in the ‘year of action.’ We look forward to your ongoing support in 2010 and standing together, as one for equal rights.

The nation-wide rallies held on November 28 for same-sex marriage rights, held just days after a Senate inquiry into same-sex marriage rights chose bigotry over equality, saw people take to the streets in cities across Australia. Over 1000 marched in Sydney and 3000 in Melbourne, including hundreds from across regional Victoria.

Activists in the ACT have welcomed the support of prominent federal MP, Bob McMullan, Member for Fraser, who tonight declared his support of ACT civil union ceremonies – despite opposition to the idea from the Rudd Government.
