National Day of Action 2009

The 2009 Equal Love National Day of Action was the largest demonstration of support for same-sex marriage ever staged in Australia. More than 10,000 people across the country took to the streets to demand equal marriage rights, and nation took note. Hundreds of same-sex couples took part in mass illegal wedding ceremonies in direct defiance of the same-sex marriage ban, which has now been in place five years.
